nice traditional place good service the veal scalope was fine and delicious with fries. ribs were good with as accompaniment a meleed salad but we had already ordered a melee salad! we should have warned us to take something else especially than in the accompaniment of the aperitif there were already cold ribs in minced damage small details to correct but it was still a pleasant evening.

Die Terrasse war voll und wir sitzen im Gastraum. Vorspeise Trüffeltartar, Kalbsteak mit Rosmarinkartoffel und Gemüse , Walliser Burger mit Pommes. Nachspeise und Kaffee.Alles ausgezeichnet im Geschmack und von sehr guter Qualität. Die Bedienung war nicht ganz so aufmerksam wie man es sich wünscht. Gedeck vergessen, kein weiteres Wasser. Trotzdem würden wir wieder kommen.

We have been coming to Zermatt for many years thus we know that it is a very expensive holiday, especially regarding the restaurants. This is the first time we came to eat at Sonnmatten. The location and the design are both beautiful. Unfortunately the food was disappointing: poor in taste and certainly not justifying the high prices.

Das Restaurant lag in der Nähe unseres Hotels und sah von aussen sehr hübsch und einladend aus, mit eigenem Gemüse-und Kräutergarten. Leider täuschte der Eindruck, schon beim hereinkommen fühlte man sich alles andere als willkommen, nur widerwillig wurde uns ein Tisch zugewiesen. Das war sehr schade, denn die Einrichtung und das Dekor war liebevoll und schön gestaltet. Die beiden jungen Bedienungen schienen unmotiviert und behandelten uns von oben herab. Das Essen war nichts besonderes, aber ok, auf der teureren Seite. Glücklicherweise gibt es genügend andere tolle Orte hier in Zermatt mit freundlichem Service, wo man sich als Gast wohl und willkommen fühlt. Werden hier definitiv nicht mehr hingehen.

Selten so gut gegessen - ein Traum! Wunderbare Fleischqualität, grosse Portionen, toll gewürzt, nette Bedienung, angenehmes Ambiente.

Our hotel recommended this restaurant. The food was very good but our overall experience was poor because of the noisy environment. We had premium outdoor seating. That is to say, we had the table with the best view of the Matterhorn. Unfortunately, it was right next to the children's play area; and there were SIX children bouncing on a trampoline the whole time we were there (about 2 hours). As you might imagine with that many kids playing, at any given time there were children laughing, screaming, and crying. I think the owner may live there and this may be the only place for their children to play. I'm sympathetic to small business owners with children. It's tough to balance a business with your personal life. However, tourists paying top dollar for a good meal should not have to suffer through 2 hours of 6 kids playing loudly. At a minimum, there should be a barrier between the dining area and play area. Plant some bushes or something.As for the food, I have to say it was very good. I had the cordon blue and my wife had a curry soup and salad. It would have been an excellent experience for us were it not for the noise.One last thing; due to some construction in the area, there is a big crane in between the restaurant and the Matterhorn. It's not quite blocking the view - but almost. Considering the steep prices, it's another reason you might want to avoid this restaurant.

We had dinner at Sonnmatten this week and both the food and the service were excellent. Each one of us had a different meal and everyone was pleased with their choice. The restaurant is beautifully located with an awesome view on the Matterhorn. This restaurant works well for families with kids and/or dogs. Would definitely go back there!
