Back in Montreux and we headed straight for this authentic, excellent value restaurant.We have an apartment here - it is an expensive town. In fact, it rather prides itself on being expensive.So this place is a find!Get over the fact that it is also a betting shop - and that the other customers tend to be a little bit old and definitely local.The lady behind the bar is great - and the food is tasty - almost rustic. I think the owner tries to trick foreign tourists into buying a salad as a starter. For the second time, having agreed to a main course coming with a salad, we were both served salads as starters that we hadn't ordered. Of course, this could be a simple misunderstanding - but I rather like the idea that this is her little trick. The salads are very good and, at 6 Swiss francs for two, must be the cheapest "con" ever!This is the only place where anyone can afford to drink pints in Montreux.We have tried every restaurant in Montreux - this is the only one I look forward to coming back to.I know that many of our friends would not be seen dead here. It just isn't ritzy enough. But please try it just once. It is a very old café and is the sort of place that is being pushed out by big chains. Montreux will be a poorer place when this venerable institution finally closes.
