Da Mamma

Nice place on one of principal streets on edge of old town. Nice outdoor seating area and good service, a lot of locals dined when we were there. We selected partly due to diverse menu choices for our group, the food was good, not great, but this is not a fine dining location. Reasonably expensive, as we found most places in Switzerland to be on this trip.

For most visitors, eating out at good restaurants in Switzerland proves to be expensive. In the "German" speaking regions of the country the cuisine tends to be very hearty and frequently prepared with wonderful, rich dairy products such as cheeses, cream, and sour cream. After a week of rich food, Da Mamma was a great change of pace. Located in Chur's beautiful and charming old town, Da Mamma closes early - around 18:30 - as most locals eat their main meal at noon which is when Da Mamma is busiest. We stopped by around three in the afternoon to alert the family that we wished to reserve a table for an early 5:00 pm dinner and to place our order. The decor was very simple; there was no menu, and the welcome was warm and friendly. We simply asked in Italian what was available and settled on the tagliatelle which had been made fresh - in house - that morning. We were offered a choice of two or three sauces and we chose the Bolognese sauce. There is simply no comparison between dried, store bought pasta, and Da Mamma's fresh, home made tagliatelle which was perfectly cooked "al dente" and blended with a lovely, light tomato based sauce. As other reviewers have noted, with mineral water and a plain lettuce salad simply dressed with balsamic vinegar, one can enjoy a fine pasta meal for around 17.50 CHF. In Switzerland, that's a bargain. Once we had finished our early, made to order dinner the cafe closed, as there was no other business. Therefore, if you are wanting dinner, I would stop by or call in advance to let them know you're coming.

Don't let the simple facade fool you. Located in a storefront 10 minutes walk from the train, this tiny gem offers all one might wish for in Italian dining: jovial proprietress in the kitchen and at your table, attentive staff in tee shirts, jeans & aprons, outstanding wines(Mamma's choice) and richly savory dishes I'll likely not taste again, at least not in the US. In short, this place is fantastic. Our party of 10 did not phase them. Mamma even offered to stay open so we could enjoy our meal...and what an experience it was. Words seem inadequate to describe the meal. If you like Italian cuisine, don't pass up this place.

We got to Chur at about 3 pm,10 of us.we wanted Italian food,so the hotel gave us a couple of recommendation.We called Da Mamma,they were about to close,but said come over.We were greeted by genuine,friendly welcome from Mamma ,her hostess and cook.They prepared fresh,made to order,variety of authentic dishes.coupled with very good choices of wine.Everyone left impressed by the whole experience. Food was excellent.What a delightful dinner and evening

We deliberately looked for Da Mamma on our visit to Chur - we were welcomed with a huge smile and although the young lady who greeted us didn't speak a lot of English(sadly we don't speak much German or Italian) we managed between us to order one of the dishes of the day - Spaghetti Carbonara and it was absolutely delicious. The meal choices of the day were Euro17.50 for a salad, main course and a mineral water - great value. "Mamma" came out into the garden area where we were sitting and again we had a really friendly chat despite the language barrier.I would recommend eating here but please bear in mind that like many places to eat in Chur they are mainly open during the day rather than later in the evening.

You cannot go wrong with Da Mamma, we had the best dinner in our entire vacation in Switzerland. A true authentic Italian cuisine with a passionate cook who clearly takes great enjoyment in bringing you the best food possible and taking good care of her guests (if you want more I'd be happy to bring you some extra). Prices are low for Swiss standards, so what are you waiting for?

Came here based on Trip advisor reviews and so glad we did. We were greeted by a friendly English speaking girl and mamma. There is no real menu, we were just asked what we would like, we asked what they would recommend and were given some options. We chose the marscopone and ham ravioli with different sauces, a butter and sage and a bolognese sauce. All were home made and very fresh. Both were delicious! We had a fresh green salad with a delicious Italian sauce. A glass of wine each. It was cheap when compared to the prices we had paid in some very ordinary restaurants in Switzerland.
