Pizzeria Farouati

It's been a while since I've been there but their pasta is really good. One time they mixed up my order and I got the wrong pasta, but it was delicious anyway. Each time I went there the place wasn't too busy though. But then again, I didn't go during busy hours either (afternoon.)

We had a cordon bleu and a pasta, so greasy we felt sick the next day. The waiter was super friendly and making us feel great, albeit the fact the owner of the restaurant thought the place was his living room and listened to music on his speaker phones

We dined at Farouati's three times during a recent visit to Vienna with family that live in the city. We found this kid-friendly restaurant to offer Italian and Austrian food prepared well. We loved the garlic soup, any type of schnitzel and all the pastas we tried. The tagliatelle with gorgonzola was very good and well prepared. Service was friendly and attentive and the pizzeria also has a decent wine selection.

As ex-pats living in Vienna, it is natural to seek out the familiar foods of home, like pizza and pasta. Pizzeria Farouati is not the place. On our only visit, two of our party ordered pizzas and rated them as good. For me, the standard is the pasta aglio e olio (pasta with garlic and oil.) A good Italian restaurant should be able to prepare this dish expertly. Mine arrived swimming in oil and with bitter garlic. Tremendous disappointment. Though the restaurant came highly rated by a friend, we will not return.

My husband and I have been living in Vienna for three months and have eaten at several restaurants. Farouati’s may be our favorite. The food, especially the pizza, is outstanding. It may be the best pizza we have eaten and that includes Italy. The service is outstanding and friendly. The prices are more than reasonable. The pizzas are made to order and are supposed to be “personal” – one person one pizza. However, they are large and will satisfy a healthy appetite. You can order a smaller size. We have taken leftovers home. By the way, the pizza comes unsliced and you eat it with a knife and fork. There are a wide variety of toppings and you can ask for combinations not found on the menu. Saturday nights are “fish nights” and on recent Saturday we had a sea bass cooked to perfection. We ordered one pizza and one sea bass and my husband and I shared them. There is a very nice wine list and beer on tap. The restaurant is a little out of the way, on Billrothstrasse 49 in the 19th district, but well worth the trip. You can take buses 10A or 35A to Gatterburggasse and it’s a short, 1 minute walk to the restaurant.
